The two key themes in this Trompowsky course are that you fight for the initiative with aggressive lines and you rarely take the knight on f6, pinning it or waiting till the time is right.
The course is low-theory and focuses on the variations you’re most likely to come across. As Black will seldom be booked up against the Trompowsky, with just a little bit of study (only 62 trainable lines), you’ll be outplaying your opponents.
Starting Out: Trompowsky’s attack plans:
The Tromp Wall – when Black pushes their d5 pawn, build an improved Stonewall setup, with pawns on c3, d4, e3, and f4, an “octopus” knight on e5, while you remain risk-free with your dark-square bishop outside the pawn chain
The Tromp Torre – if Black refrains from playing their pawn to d5, go for a triangle pawn setup with pawns on e3 and c3, giving you flexible kingside maneuvering and seizing the initiative with a d5 pawn push of your own
The Tromp Sicilian – a direct attacking plan with a queenside castle and a pawnless center after 2…c5
The Trompbava – meet King’s Indian and Grünfeld g6 ideas with a Jobava-style setup with your knight on c3. Keep your dark-square bishop on the board and make a battery with your queen
2…Ne4 setups – keep your composure and your prized Trompowsky bishop against 3…c5 and 3…d5
Authored by a Chess Content Professional
Author National Master Jeremy Kane initially tried out 1.d4 and 1.c4 – but was frustrated by his attempts at opening preparation.
That’s when he decided to switch to the Trompowsky – finding himself more comfortable than his opponents on just move 2.
The repertoire contained in this course is his personal Trompowsky repertoire. The attacking lines in it took his online rating up hundreds of points – peaking at somewhere around 2800!
But he’s not just a Trompwosky expert – he is an expert instructor as evidenced by his role as Curriculum Director at Chess.com. Being the person responsible for building Chess.com’s content library, there really is no one more suitable to teach club players how to play.
If you’d like an underplayed attacking repertoire capable of having you climb the rating ladder, then give Starting Out: The Trompowsky a try, today.
